Myanmar's First Coworking Space: Project HUB Yangon

Myanmar, formally known as Burma, has changed drastically in the last several years. Due to the dissolution of military rule and major political changes pushing for a more transparent government, Myanmar is now becoming a point of interest for a slew of international investors and business owners. While these changes are positive in many ways, countries that undergo major transitions like those of the former Republic of Burma are often susceptible to corruption and bad business practices. Currently, only around 1% of the population in Myanmar has access to the internet, yet this will undoubtedly change in the near future. As a result, opportunity spaces and coworking spaces, could become an important part of Myanmar’s future employment picture.

Conversation Therapy

Think about the last person you met, or were introduced to. Maybe they were a new member of your coworking space. Or they were a new perspective client. Or an attendee at a meetup or event. Can you remember your first 5 mins of conversation with that person?  How much detail was worth remembering? One... Read more »

Quarantining new ideas for monthly review

I have this terrible tendency to flit from one idea to the next. Ask me what I’m up to today, and I’ll tell you something I’m really excited about, but then ask me again in two weeks, and odds are I’ll give you a different answer. Ask me again in a few months and I […]

When Your Client’s Baby Is Ugly

So often we freelancers forget that the project means a lot more to the client than it does to us. That’s because it’s their baby. They created--gave birth--to it. They nurtured it and put in the hard work to get it where it is today. And then they realized they could only do so much for it and handed it over to us to give it a push to get it to the next level.

Guest Post #4: Small Business, Big Brand by Sean McCarthy of Digital Marketing NOW

Small Business, BIG Brand! By Sean McCarthy, Director of Client Strategy, Digital Marketing NOW In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a little tournament going on in Brazil this month and with it has come some of the most creative (and expensive) advertising on the planet. Whether you call it football, futbol, or soccer, global brands such as McDonald’s and Nike are sparing no expense to put their brands on your television, in the World Cup stadiums, and on billboards around…

Working well

Last week I mentioned the Digpen 7 conference coming up the weekend of 26-27 September (linked here). Amongst the many awesome technical talks, I will be giving a more general, working life related presentation. My talk, perhaps not surprisingly, will be about paying attention to where you are working, and making sure you are working […]

How we made Creative Density People First

From the outside many companies, journalist, and general people relate coworking to a space with desks and people with headphones on. That’s not coworking. That’s workspace. Coworking is a community that focuses on people first, space second. Back in 2005 when coworking was coined and created in it’s current form by coder Brad Neuberg in San Francisco it wasn’t because […]
